With the rising amount of misinformation being posted on social media platforms, we feel this is an important step to ensure you and your family have accurate information to make the best decision for you. In addition, you are welcome to schedule a consultation with your provider if you are interested in further discussion. Please take a moment and read through the following: AUTISM & VACCINES CLAIM: In 1998, Dr. Wakefield published a single study claiming that there is a link between the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine and autism. This study was retracted and debunked. FACT: The 1998 study was retracted and Dr. Wakefield lost his medical license due to the false claims he published. Thousands of studies have now been published that negate the link between the MMR vaccine and autism. Extensive research proves that thimerosal is a safe ingredient in vaccines, and it does not cause neurological problems or autism. We can very confidently say there is no link between vaccines and autism. VACCINE INGREDIENTS CLAIM: An advisory committee to the CDC recently recommended banning thimerosal, a preservative, from all vaccines because of its mercury content. This incorrectly increased safety concerns regarding vaccines components such as aluminum and mercury. FACT: First, Thimerosal has not been in any routine childhood vaccines since the early 2000s. Thimerosal is an ethyl mercury. Toxicity concerns relate to methyl mercury, a different form of the element that has never been used in vaccines. FINANCIAL INCENTIVES FOR VACCINES CLAIM: Misleading statements wrongly claiming that pediatricians have financial motivations for recommending vaccines. FACT: Providing immunizations imposes significant costs for a pediatric practice: high upfront vaccine purchase costs, complex storage and handling expenses such as specialized refrigeration and insurance, database software to meet state reporting requirements, professional liability insurance, medical equipment and physician and staff time. These costs make vaccinations one of a pediatric practice’s biggest overhead expenses. We recommend vaccines because they are important for children's health .
